Nick and I decided we wanted to find an easy way to share what's going on with our In Vitro Fertilization cycle. Neither of us like to talk on the phone and smoke signals seemed impractical, so here you have it...one of these new-fangled things they call 'blogs'. Look at us...so hip. :) Consider yourselves on the short list of tens, nay, DOZENS of our closest family and friends, who we want to prevent phone calls from (only kidding...kinda).
So, here's where we'll post what's going on with us. If you care to read, fantastic! If not...we don't care! Up to you. SPOILER ALERT: There will be some discussion of the reproductive system, so if you didn't enjoy the 'birds and the bees' talk...this is not a good place for you. Here's the "Tweet" version of our story. We can't get pregnant on our own for a variety of reasons. Visited a scary doctor in KC that wanted to do a lot of scary things to get us pregnant. Found an awesome doc in St. Louis. Committed to In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) with said awesome doc on April 25. (Was that 140 characters or less? Close enough.)

I'm sharing his website for two reasons 1) he looks like a pint-sized Rob Reiner. 2) His website has a ton of information that explains the IVF process far better than I ever could. You'll all recall that I am not the scientist in our relationship and Nick is not a writer. Alas, an impasse. So, for all you ever wanted to know (and fair warning...some kinda graphic pictures at times)...check it out.
We're super lucky to have found our way to Dr. Silber. After a very bad experience with the doctor we saw in Kansas City (and hearing from others that had a similar experience), I was researching acupuncturists in St. Louis for a friend and just stumbled upon Dr. Silber's website. He has pioneered many of the fertility treatments in use today. He is a straight-shooter...no b.s.
Right now, we're in the 'filling out a million pieces of paperwork' stage. We'll be getting our official calendar shortly, but we know for sure that on June 21, I'll begin a series of injectable medications (most of which I will give to myself, but one is intra-muscular and Nick gets to handle that one). On July 7th, I'll head to St. Louis for the first of my monitoring appointments. Nick will arrive around July 14th and our egg retrieval date is slated for July 16th (unless I respond to really well to the treatments, in which case it could be sooner. And if you know me at all, I LIKE TO WIN. So I really want to be the superstar of IVF treatments and go sooner). Several days later (after some miracle of modern science magic), we hope to implant two embroys into my uterus.
